Get up when the music starts.
If all the nearby squares are filled, hold your hand up high so that the caller can either guide you to a square where you are needed or get some other couples to join you.
It is bad manners to bypass a square that needs a couple. Even worse, is to leave a square once you have joined one.
If you wish to dance with friends, you and one other couple could stand in opposite positions in the set and let two other couples join you.
Square dancing is a friendly activity. Meet your fellow dancers. Wear your name badge.
Keep the chit chat to a minimum and talk during the breaks. You don't want to miss a call.
Be aware of your grip and do not push others around in the square.
It can catch on clothing or you might unintentionally inflict injury on your fellow dancers.
At the end of every tip, be sure to thank the others in your square.
